I recently got hold of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S from the kind folks at Sony Philippines and I just wanted to share with you a quick unboxing video of this gorgeous and slim looking Smartphone for those gadget loving geeks out there. Thus, I present you thy video:
Stay tuned in the coming days I continue to upload sample videos from the phone itself onto our YouTube channel. So far, I am pretty impressed both with the camera and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S! I am beginning to fall in love with this phone, however, my true love is still with my very own Samsung Galaxy S2.
Expect to see a full written article and video review in the next couple of weeks! Keep your eyes peeled on TechDron!
Sssh, keep it down. I’ll tell you something. Keep it hushed. The Canon Powershot S100 was “secretly” released in the Philippines as I so happened to find out during a dinner discussion with fellow bloggers here in Cebu.
I browsed the official Canon Philippines website looking for another model, the Canon G12, and I was surprised to see that Canon Philippines added a new product to their catalog, the Canon Powershot S100.
Canon Powershot S100
I have recently contacted Canon Philippines through email and by phone sometime in December 2011 asking them when they’ll release the Canon Powershot S100 in the Philippines as it has already been released in the US in November and in December for Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. However, no one in the Manila office nor the Cebu office gave a suitable and concrete answer.
Moreover, I also called up Canon’s South East Asia headquarters in Singapore looking for an answer. Unfortunately, I got a similar answer. No one knew. It might have been discussed internally in the Philippines or at the headquarters in Singapore, however, not even a proposed timeline was given to me.
Nevertheless, let’s not spoil this incredible point and shoot camera. The Canon Powershot S100 is the successor to its younger brother, the Canon Powershot S95 which brought on praises in the photography, camera and gadget communities.
The Canon Powershot S100 now includes full HD (High Definition) video recording with continuous auto focus at 1080p (24fps) and 720p (30fps). Furthermore, from the initial video samples uploaded by various YouTubers, the quality of the videos are spectacular especially in low-light, thanks to its aperture of f/2.0. It’s crisp and sharp!
In terms of image quality, I read that there wasn’t much improvement from its predecessor, the Canon Powershot S95. On the other hand, Canon managed to add a grip, boost the camera to 12MP from 10MP and install the latest DIGIC 5 image processor.
It looks like I am turning this article into a review when I haven’t even yet handled the device yet. On a different note, Canon Philippines should have at least placed a news article or an announcement on their website in regards to their release of the Canon Powershot S100 or emailed interested individuals who inquired about the camera (yes, that’s me).
In spite of the poor answers given to me by Canon Philippines, this won’t deter me from staying clear of the company as I have a Canon heart. I have owned three of their great DSLRs, the Canon 1000D, the Canon 50D and now recently the Canon 550D. Canon manufactures excellent and high quality products and I am sure they bore another beautiful and sexy child, the Canon Powershot S100.
The question is – When will Canon Philippines launch the Canon Powershot S100? Will they only bother to launch it in Manila? How about the provinces?
I’ll be waiting for a response from Canon Philippines team in regards to this matter. Until then, we can only wait. Patience has set in again.
Keeping up with the latest news articles or blog articles from several news source will squeeze all your time especially when you are on the move as you have to select each bookmark and browse through it one by one which additionally takes time to load via 3G. What happens if you have more than a dozen or so blogs which you follow? The Google Reader solves all those problems as it downloads the latest RSS feeds from your favorite websites onto your mobile device.
For those who are not that tech-savvy, RSS means Really Simple Syndication, which is a web format which is automatically generated in a standardized format of articles (with images) so that it can be read by RSS readers such as The Google Reader app. Nowadays, most, if not all websites, including blogs, have RSS.
The benefit with Google Reader is that one can easily synchronize all their favorite feeds with their Google account. Moreover, feeds are automatically synchronized and downloaded (except for images) on an hourly basis.
Google Reader Android App - Latest Feeds
Moreover, the user interface is dead simple to use as you can add additional feeds, “star” (favorite) particular RSS items and create folders to categorize your feeds. All of which is being synchronized with your Google Account.
The Google Reader App is perfect for individuals who are always on the move and who don’t have time to manually browse the web on their mobile devices to check out updates from their favorite sites. The only drawback for the Google Reader App is the inability to download images for offline viewing, something which I’d like to see in the next version release. Other than that, it’s fantastic!
I say, give an A+ to the Google Reader App! Top notch app!
I am pretty new in the mobile app field as I only recently got myself the Samsung Galaxy S2. Nonetheless, I was hungry enough to try out the thousands of apps on the Android Marketplace. One of the first few apps which I downloaded happened to be a task management or To-Do list app called Any.DO, which I so desperately need.
It so happened that I was looking for a “To Do” app when I spotted Any.DO being featured on the main homepage of the Android Market. I read through it and as soon as read that it supports Google Task synchronization, I was on my way to downloading it.
Simply said, Any.DO, allows you to add tasks that you wish to accomplish by a specific day or time. One can easily add a task by typing it in the field or by using Android’s speech recognition software.
Furthermore, you can easily synchronize your tasks with your Google or Gmail account which is beneficial for those who work on both a computer and on their mobile devices. To add on, if you’re into white or if your phone has a white exterior you can match it up with the white theme available for the app. However, I still prefer the sleek black theme.
Any.DO Android App
Moving on, you can assign specific tasks with a higher priority, however, this doesn’t sync up with Google or Gmail’s tasks. However, you can create a number of lists on the app itself and it will later add and sync those new lists online.
The only drawback so far with this version, or maybe I have yet to discover it, there isn’t an option to automatically synchronize it with your Google/Gmail account every hour or so. So I hope the team behind Any.DO will cater to my feature request.
Before, I end the article with a smashing 4 out of 5 star app review, I am pleased to see that the folks working on Any.DO prioritized the development of the application on the Android platform, high-five!
Gigabyte is a well known locally for its top notch motherboards, power supply units and other related computer hardware. However, did you know that they manufacture their own line of Smartphones? That’s what I found out during my visit to Computex 2011.
Gigabyte GSmart Lineup
At the Gigabyte booth, located at the TWTC Exhibition Hall, there were three GSmart Smartphone devices lined up, the G1310, the G1315 and the G1317D. These phones were equipped with two SIM slots.
Upon looking at the exterior and design of the phone, it somewhat reminds me of the locally branded Cherry Mobile phones, specifically the Orbit, Nova and Stellar. In fact these Cherry Mobile phones are indeed the same models being displayed at the Gigabyte Computex 2011 booth. I guess Cherry Mobile just buys large quantities of phones from China and Taiwan and stamps their brand and logo on the device. Well, that’s what most western companies do anyway.
Gigabyte GSmart
The Gigabyte GSmart G1310, the G1315 and the G1317D all have a Qualcomm 528MHZ processor and Android 2.2 as for the operating the system. The only difference between the three models is the screen sizes – 3.5, 3.2 and 3.2 respectively.
As I reported in my previous article, Gigabyte seems to have other lineups including laptops. Why don’t they directly sell these items in the Philippines? Why don’t they expand here? Send in your comments below.
